ICAP

Internet Content Adaptation Protocol

Internet Content Adaptation Protocol
A protocol developed in 2000 by a consortium comprising, among others, Network Appliance, Akamai Technologies and Novell. Its aim is to provide a generic interface for communicating with internet content filtering solutions. Web and email content are the primary targets. The principle is therefore to interface HTTP proxies (for the web) and SMTP relays (for email) with filtering solutions using the ICAP protocol.
